How can I get my laptop to connect to my tv

I have a HP stream laptop with Windowsand a Visio tv and I'm try to get my shows to play on my tv using an hdmi cord but it won't work. I never had this problem with my last lap top and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong now. It will let my choose "PC screen only" , "Extend" , and "Second screen only" but not "duplicate" which is what seems to be the needed choice. Can anyone help me??

Sometimes the resolutions need to match to duplicate screens. Try 720p instead of 768 on your laptop and see if that comes through your TV.
