Question How can I get my Toshiba satellite C55 B5270 to stay powered on?

Someone gave me this laptop and I had to get a charger for it. When I plugged the charger in the very first time the battery light was white. Then I took it apart to see if anything looked abnormal and couldn't find anything. So, this time when I plugged in the charger, the battery light was an orange/red color. I left it charging for a bit and it turned white again. When I press the power button the light under the button comes on and I hear it right at the beginning of starting up and then it shuts off. I never hear the fan kick on but maybe it doesn't have time to because it immediately shuts off after it seems to want to come on. Please help me

Was the laptop working when you got the laptop? Or did the person that gave it to you say it was not working? Did you get the right model charger for it or some cheap Chinese copy? Could be a charger issue, or could be a motherboard issue from what is happening.
