How can I get rid of the paragraph symbol, if the options menu does not have it turned on?

My Microsoft Word 2013 suddenly started adding the paragraph symbol, whenever I press enter. It also adds an arrow pointing right whenever I press tab, and dots in the middle of the line whenever I press space. I have checked the display section of the options menu, and have been unable to solve the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
