How do i get my computer screen to display on my tv after i hook up the hdmi cable to both tv and computer?

I plugged in the hdmi cable to my tv and to my laptop but i can not get the pc screen to show on my tv . i have it on the correct input .

Many laptops have a function key that you press to change the video output mode (internal only, external only, internal and external). You might need to change your output mode.

You should also be able to access everything through Screen Resolution, though some laptops may require you to turn on screen mirroring on before it will detect properly.
