How do I get sound from my TV and Hi-Fi at the same when watching a dvd...?

I have a Samsung dvd player with with the red, white OUT ports on the rear. I use these two with the same coloured leads to connect to Sony Hi-fi red and white ports so when I watch a dvd, not only is the sound coming out of the TV, it's also coming out of the HI-FI as well. However, I looking into getting a multi regional dvd player and it seems these OUT red and white ports are not on the models that I have seen. Thus I thought maybe I could connect the red and white leads from my tv to the hi-fi instead. But after speaking to several people and spending hours trawling online, it would seem this option is out of the question as the red and white ports on the tv are video display only and the only option, from what I can gather, is to use my headphone jack. But this will only mean the sound is coming out of my hi-fi only and not the tv as well. Surely there must be a way of getting a connection which will enable sound from my tv and hi-fi at the same time. I'm racking my brains out over this so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for reading my question and taking the time to reply. Please, however, forgive my ignorance as I am not that technically minded but please could you explain what cable I would need to connect to my hi-fi? My Hi-fi does not have a HDMI connection and if I get the player that I am thinking about it will probably only have one HDMI connection which I will use to connect the multi regional player to my tv. That's not a problem as I understand you can get a HDMI adapter so I can have several HDMI connections from one source if required. But as the cables I am using are the red and white (left & right) I'm confused as to what I can connect for audio as from the Amazon link, there seems only one slot available on the device for audio. As I said I'm not that technically minded when it comes to this, so please forgive me but if you could clarify what cable (unless it comes with the device) I should use, it would be most helpful. Thank you again!

Thank you for your answers, Americanaudiophile & Sora. I have now found a solution to my problem! And the solution, in case anyone else is reading and has a similar dilemma, is to use a 3 Phono & S-Video to Scart Adaptor. This is a scart connection which has an Output & Input option and the red and white audio and yellow video holes. So all I did was plug it into the back of my tv, attached the red and white leads from the scart and connected these leads to my input holes on my hi-fi and hey presto, it works! I can then get sound from my tv and hi-fi at the same time. So thank you for your answers and help. I'm so glad I've git this sorted but at the same time I am quite angry that when I explained what I was trying to achieve, my local hardware store, Alba (my tv manufacturer) and Maplin - all supposed technical experts - told me quite categorically that what I wanted could not be done. I'm no expert, and I took a chance with this scart adaptor, and it worked! And the great thing is it only cost me £6 from Asda. The trick when using this scart adaptor is to remember to switch to the appropriate output or input. In my case, once the scart is plugged into the tv, select output, select your appropriate leads to an input audio device ie hi-fi and that is how you get sound from both sources at the same time! Hope this helps anyone else who has been told by 'experts' that this can't be done! All the best!
