How do I hook up my element to my onkyo

I’m trying to hook up my element TV to my receiver and I can’t seem to get the sound out of the receiver for my TV

Would help if you listed the models of both, they made more than one product with different connection types.

I have Element 3918. I use the optical digital output on TV connected to one of the 3 inputs on my onkyo. If you want to use it on video 1, make sure you set up video 1 source to the optical input you used. Onkyo tx-nr801

Most TVs require you to turn on the optical output and some require you to turn off the TV speakers.
