Hello,
How do I remove an unwanted Virus scan application from my computer?

You can use the add/remove programs feature in the control panel. But the best way is probably to use revo uninstaller. It has a feature to make sure all registry traces are removed as well.

If the application is installed...majority of the time it will not be in the add remove programs feature

That's true. But the OP said he simply wants to remove an unwanted scanner. Not necessarily malware. Thus, it would be in add/remove programs.
