Question How does side loading or jail breaking an android box work?

I noticed while reading reviews on android boxes online that some suppliers offer the promise of unlimited channels or free unlocked netflix, crave. I get scams exist. But some of these are legit. How is it done?

All of these services now require accounts, so unlimited access is certainly not true and couldn't be legit.
