I would never recommend anyone investing into a laptop for gaming. Just buy the cheapest POS laptop for home or office work. Then keep saving for an actual PC. - Sorry this is bit off topic.

Yeah, low would be impressive for gaming on that laptop. The graphics on the laptop is a 8550G. You may be able to play low on some games, but if the game is GPU intensive, forget it.

gaming laptops are expensive.. $1000 just to play games ok and $1500-$2000 for good performance.

That's going to be pretty tough and might be impossible. Here's a link from NoteBookCheck's mobile gaming list. You can sift through looking for which GPU would be a good choice for the games you want to play and then the laptops equipped with the graphics chip. I personally think most of the options are out of your budget range. I think the lowest laptop for gaming is going to be $800USD. Good luck.
