How long should I wait?

So, I'm going to try and get into PC gaming, but with college coming up, I need that in a laptop. I've looked at a lot, and some of the MSI series look great. Though it will take around a year and a half to save up enough to get a good one. Should I wait even longer until tech has progressed even farther and I'll be able to get a better one, or just get one then and coast on it for a while? (Also, any suggestions about which one to get would be great.)

Technology will always advance. If it takes you 1.5 years to save up money for gaming laptop, then at that point in time there will be better CPUs and GPUs available. Then again if you wait another 1.5 years after that then there will be even better technology. Wait another 10 years and you can get even better performing hardware.

The question is how long do you actually want to wait before you get tired of waiting?
