Hey guys/chick
I'm looking into buying a laptop for college work and gaming with a budget of $600. I went onto lenovo's website and I believe I found some really good deals that will end on feb 4, 2015. The one that peeked my interest was the $549 lenovo z50 with a i7processor, 8g ram with an Intel® HD Graphics 4400 . Then i came across another laptop a little cheaper the $499 z40 with a i7 processor, 4gb ram and a NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 820M 2GB graphics. so my question is which one is better?

It depends on what you'll be doing with the laptop as to how much of a difference you will see between them. Will you be doing anything graphically intensive on the laptop?

For games, I would go for the one with the discrete graphics - the z40. You can upgrade the RAM later if you need to.

It's not brilliant but it's not too bad either.

These laptops are only for multimedia , cause of processors are Ultra Low Voltage and dosen`t work on games very well.
I suggest to search one laptop with Alpha Suffix , M or QM .

They are ultra low voltage but they do offer a turbo boost function which lets them be clocked to pretty good speeds.

wouldn't it be better to have the 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4510U Processor (2.00GHz 1600 MHz 4MB with the intel hd graphic 4400 than the 4th Generation Intel Core i3-4030U Processor (1.90GHz 1600MHz 3MB) with NVIDIA GeForce GT820M GDDR3 2GB?

Check out this list to see the options within your budget.

If your budget is $600, the best option is the Acer Aspire V3-572G for $549 with Nvidia GT 840M graphics, an i5-4210U, 8GB RAM, and a 15.6" 1366x768 display.

I'd say spend the extra $39 over budget on the Acer Aspire V3-572G-543S, though. It has a 1080p display, a new Broadwell i5-5200U, and 8GB RAM.

Those are the most powerful gaming options. The Lenovo Z40 for $499 is good if that is your max budget, since it has a 1080p display and Nvidia GT 820M graphics, but it's considerably less powerful in all respects than the Acers.
