How to access Wi-Fi on my Dell Inspiron M5040

Hi, I got a problem and I need help. Everytime I try to access wifi with my Dell Inspiron M5040 laptop it doesn't sense the network and wifi is unaccessable. Please help me. Secondly I've got a problem with the screen resolution of my laptop each time I play games its default resolution is 800X600 I would like to know how to change this resolution. Please

make sure your wifi is turned on, if it is turned on, and still not seeing any networks, your wireless card may be shot.
