My LED TV has RCA output. I have connected it to my 5.1ch home theater RCA input port. My home theatre also has digital optical and digital coax input port

There is no advantage to your converting the RCA output to optical but this would do the trick.

Normally you want to keep it separated. Analog to Analog, digital to digital.

Why do you want to go analog to digital? (possible via a converter) but you are getting stereo and that's it.

I am having the same issue. I have an ACER projector that I want to connect to my BOSE soundbase. Projector only has 3.5mm audio out...soundbase only takes L/R coax, digital coax, or optical toslink. Is there an adapter for this? How will it affect my sound quality?
