how to connect tv to laptop for recording gameplay

i need to record xbox gameplay for my youtube channel. right now i use a camera

Oh but wait, you didn't say that at all in your post. You just told him to connect the TV to the laptop which all that did was either mirror the image on the TV or makes the TV the new display. You might wanna read what your 1st post was.
