How to correctly apply thermal paste to laptop?

Hi, how to correctly apply thermal paste to laptop? Spread paste with card, or let heatsink to do that? How much use, bit, or more? And what paste you can recommend? Any recommendations in this job?

Put a small pea in the middle.
Arctic silver thermal paste.
let the heatsink do the job.

small pea size is applicable only in case of desktop...because it is cool rather than laptop.in laptop little more needed ,laptop generally run at high temperature so it will cause more fluidity and center clearance.so finally the center part of cpu become deficit of paste.it happens..better do line method vertically or horizontally for notebook cpu
