Maybe it will be some day, but right now SteamOS beta is no faster than Windows nor other Linux distributions.

I just used this and put steamOS on a separate hard drive from Win 8.1. The Linux partition menu has always been a little squirrely so this guide helped. I used GRUB even though my win 8 is on another drive and it dual boots perfectly. I don't actually care if it's quicker I just like the fact that SteamOS probably won't be looking for JAVA updates while I'm getting my butt kicked in BF4. I want a gaming OS.
