How to encrypt with Android 7.0

Have a samsung tablet running Android 7.0 I want to encrypt it but there only seems to be an option for me to encrypt an SD card. Is Android 7.0 encrypted by default? If not how can I encrypt it? Ta

You can't really encrypt the whole device. You can lock it. Password protect it, but you can't encrypt the whole thing. The SD card can be encrypted so that someone can't take it out of the tablet and read it from another device.
