Hi guys. I newly registered to this forum because I need your help.
I own an old HP envy m6. The DC power plug hasn't been working properly since a while now. It needs to be twisted (1) in order work.

I made sure to check if the problem wasn't coming from the power jack or the end of the plug (2,3,4). To avoid having my PC shutdown without notice, I'm using the battery, but I noticed the power plug heats up while charging. Do I need to buy a whole new adapter or can I simply open the plug and try fixing it "DIY" style ? is it safer to buy a new one ?

Thank you in advance for help and advice.

From your description there is a short in the wiring in the plug.
It's molded plastic plug and isn't meant to be chopped apart or reassembled.
I don't know if you can get a solderable version of the plug.
If you could get a bad adapter with a good plug you could replace the entire wire from inside the adapter. Otherwise get a new one.
