How To Fix Weakness In HP Laptop Power Jacks

HP laptops have been known to suffer from failures involving cracked hinges, broken outer laptop shells, motherboard issues, frequent laptop shutdowns and a laptop that refuses to start up. Some of them can be attributed to end user negligence but the majority of them can be attributed to poor QC implementation on HP’s part. This tutorial will show you how to fix an apparent weakness in an HP laptop’s DC male power connector.

1. Get a hold of your HP power adapter.

2. Trace the lead that exits from the power brick and terminates to the input for your laptop.

3. At the end of your terminal you should see a semicircular hook at the base of the connector. It should look like this:

4. You should loop the cable, like so,

This prevents stress from coming onto the connector which plugs into the laptop’s input. You will need to add one or two 3 inch long cable ties to secure the cable and prevent it from rendering the clip weak over time inducing elasticity.

5. If you continue to use the laptop without securing the cable, it’s highly possible that the internal construct of the connector will end up damaged. This can and will cause flickers on your screen or worse be the cause of your electrocution(if the wires end up being exposed).

6. If your adapter is one with the angled connector, you can begin your cables loop from a longer distance.

7. Another option is to use some adhesive backed Velcro. You can hot glue it to both the DC female input on your laptop and around the male DC input connector like so:

Although is restricts mobility via rotation of the power plug, you can get rid of the power jack wiggling around when connected into the port.
