How to get rid of password on hard-drive

I bought a laptop off a friend couple months ago which had a password protected hard drive, and he told me the password. I'm looking to resell the laptop to buy a phone, so how would I remove the password on the laptop
It's a HP Mini (sorry don't know exact model)
WD Black hard drive and Linux OS (soon to be replaced with Windows 7)

ask your friend again. or contact the laptop manufacturer, only they can remove a HDD password.
