Easy way to drown out the sound is to mute or lower your TV or theater system EQ for the 300Hz range as the vuvuzelas freqency is 325Hz and 465Hz, this basicly what most in-line filters and software do, just more freq spesific than manual EQ adjustments...

Also a South African. Also hate the vuvuzela with a pasion...

yeah, amazing culture that started in 2001 by plastic company. i mean come ON, how can a plastic horn can be part of a culture!!!! it is made of PLASTIC.

Quit bitching. You know how to shut them up? See how Uruguay did it. Sadly, because networks decided to turn down the crowd on the volume themselves, I couldn't hear the Uruguay side cheering their team on. I'd much rather have the commentators turned off than the crowd, especially that god awful prick Mcnanananananannnan.

He didn't explain how he found those frequencies or why he used the 'Q' setting that he did. This article is only useful for this exact sounds with that exact pitch.

It goes back to the whole give a man a fish vs teaching him to fish saying. This is a skill, not just something you do. I guess if you hate Vuvuzelas that much, you can apply this knowledge.

Considering true South African democracy (which means for every South African) is only about a year or two older than the manufacture of those horns. So technically, Vuvuzelas go back almost to the beginning 😛

[citation][nom]Vixe[/nom]As a South African myself, I guarantee you that the vuvuzella has nothing to do with "culture" - it's not a cultural instrument at all. Personally, I hate it. It's all about making noise - literally. The sole purpose of it is to just make a monotonous noise. But I guess people enjoy doing it in live performances of the World Cup, just because it contributes to the atmosphere. You might say it's just a local way of "having a good time" at a sports event.[/citation]There's nothing wrong with having a good time, but everyone on the outside complaining just seem like such a buzz kill...

Thank goodness somebody found a mildly decent way to lower the noise. It would be one thing if they were blowing them during exciting points of the game, but there's NO volume change in those "horns" whatsoever. It's like a swarm of bee's......annoying and completely mindless.

Agree. Then again, many of the "musicians" in stadium are likely to be from the same nations that are so unnerved by that sound.

This is kind of silly... He just EQed the vuvuzella out and double passed it. I was expecting some autofilter or multi-band dynamics processor.

I'm also surprised that no one's complaining that this was done in garageband, and garageband is an !!APPLE!! PRODUCT! :O

This stupid horn is just another reason to hate soccer. Maybe if you did something like hockey where the ball cant go out so easily and shrink the field 30% and then maybe it wont suck.

I think that the rest of the world likes this "sport" because its a slow laid back "game" and Americans like stuff to happen a little faster.

Even with baseball you get a throw of a ball and a chance that the guy trying to hit it will score every minute or less. Granted it doesnt happen often but there's the chance because of the way the game is set up. Its 2 guys playing catch and one guy standing between them trying to hit the ball they are playing with and hit it in such a way that the other 7 people on the play field cant catch it.

With faster you mean sports like baseball (or 90% of A. football)?

I'm a South African, the vuvuzela is not part of any african culture, but more a part of south african local SOCCER culture. It has been blown for years at the national league games by spectators. The funny thing is, all these people are complaining and foreign countries are making a big issue about it, but being a south african, living in a host city, seeing thousands of foreign football fans each day, almost ALL of them have embraced it and have bought themselves a vuvuzela. Yes, i agree it can be irritating when watching a match on tv, but if you're in the stadium it adds so much to the atmsophere, and the proof is in all of the international visitors using them as well. I work in Cape Town CBD, and since the world cup has started, i have seen more foreigners with vuvuzelas than locals.

Its what makes our world cup unique!

No, the problem is that the game isn't TV friendly like NFL/College football... On average, there is only about 15 minutes of actual 'play time' during an NFL game. Baseball is worse.

It just has to do with the fact that our best athletes are not playing soccer. They are playing 1 of 4 other major professional sports, usually. An on the rare occasion, one of our major athletes are in love with soccer, they go over seas. In a population circa 300 million, we just don't have enough people for 4 major sports +1.

That is probably why our womens' team fares better than our mens'. Women athletes have to choose from soccer, softball and basketball.

As a side note, if America were 'all about violence' and 'action' I would think that we would be more into Rugby. Fact is, we aren't into our sports because of the violence. We are into our sports because they are ours...

What is this "soccer" you talk about? A person with proper understanding of their language would call the sport, where 22 players on a field kick a ball around with their feet, FOOTBALL!!!
