How to pair non wireless tv to bluetooth soundbar

I bought a bluetooth transmitter for my non bluetooth TV so that I can use a bluetooth soundbar. This seems to work, except I can't figure out how to pair them together. Does anyone understand how these things work? Or is there a better way? Thank you!

What exactly seemed to work, when you say "this seemed to work"? As in you were able to plug in the USB transmitter to the USB port, or can you actually see bluetooth options now in the TV menu? Your soundbar likely has other connections than bluetooth, optical for example, that you can connect your TV to.
