how to set up this wish list?

Some of the shows on FoodTV are categorized as "Cooking, Special". I've
been playing with wish lists, but haven't been able to figure out how to
set one up to catch these specials. I tried a category only -- that
gets all the cooking shows. Tried a category and keyword=special, but
that only found one hit. Any ideas?

TIA,

I can only reply what I did when I experimented with my DirecTV/DVR when
I approached this problem:
1. DIRECTV CENTRAL
2."Pick Programs To Record"
3. "Search Using Wish Lists"
4. "Create New Wish List"
5."Category Only Wish List"
6."Lifestyles"
7. "Cooking"
8."View Upcoming programs"
Upon entering all these steps,I encountered 190 cooking programs, the
majority of which were scheduled to be run on the FOOD CHANNEL.
You can pick and choose which programs you like from there.
Does this help?

As I mentioned in my original post, I already tried this. I'm trying to
narrow it down to the just the shows marked as "special".

I am not sure what specifically you are looking for as I do not watch
cooking shows, but to further refine the entry list:
1.DIRECTV CENTRAL
2."Pick Programs To Record"
3."Search Using Wish Lists"
4."Create New Wish List"
5."Keyword Wish List"
6.MANUAL ENTRY(Online Keyboard): "SPECIAL"
7."Lifestyles"
8."Cooking"
9."View Upcoming Programs" [OPTIONAL]

This results in a WISH LIST entry that looks like this:
"Lifestyles/Cooking & SPECIAL".
Upon entering this refined list, under step number 9,it produced only ONE
show. But then again,I am unsure whether this is content you are seeking.

I scanned all the cooking shows. There are many more than the one hit
this solution gets. Hence the original problem.

Well,if you scanned all the cooking shows, and this one hit does not fit
your profile,then TiVo is
UNAWARE of the cooking shows you are seeking. It generally scans AT MOST
only 2 weeks ahead (sometimes 3).If the show is not on the datafile,it
generally is not aware of it,even if you yourself know otherwise.
In the absence of more specific information on your part, also,I doubt I
can further refine the process.(To further refine the process,I would
need to put this SPECIFIC data inside of asterisks,e.g., (*show
special*).
In short,it seems the shows you are looking for are not in the TiVo's
CURRENT datafile,so there is nothing further to search.
If you are seeking shows a month out or more,I doubt you will have much
success.

I tried.....

My original post explained the situation and the two steps I tried that
didn't work. Therefore, I asked here to see if anyone else had a
suggestion of what *else* I could try. Your two suggestions were the
two I had already tried.

In the category section the shows are listed as "Cooking, Special". The
one hit was triggered because "special" is in the episode title. There
are several other shows that are listed as "Cooking, Special" that
aren't coming up. A category only wish list gets 200+ hits; not exactly
effective.

It's a guide data bug.

On my DirecTiVo, I see that some of these *say* they are "Special" but don't
match a keyword-only wishlist of "Show Types/Special", so they aren't
really flagged that way.

I wonder if you could fool TiVo by entering "special" as an
actor wish list. Something that will cause TiVo to look in
the full description of the program rather than just the
title. It's worth a shot.

No, special is a category and there is currently no way to select
two categories for one wish list. It would be a handy feature
because many shows have multiple categories. I would also like
to be able to select one category and exclude a category.

Some (but not all) categories can be found with a "keyword" wishlist, so
it might work.

Since "Special" as a category (with no keyword) doesn't find all the shows,
there is no way that adding a keyword will help, and "SPECIAL" as a keyword
(with no category) also doesn't find all the shows, so no combination can
possibly get it right.

It's a guide data bug, and there is little you can do about it.
