I am trying to stream my chromecast through tv but my denon receiver is still playing sound from the tv and not chromecast. My tv is casting but no sound from denon
Without details (make, models, your connections) an exact answer is not possible.
If the stick is plugged into the TV and the audio from the TV is feeding the receiver then try changing the audio output type of the TV. If that doesn't help then an HDMI audio extractor would give you an audio output from the stick. http/www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011412&p_id=10251&seq=1&format=2
If the receiver has HMDI inputs then try connecting it to the receiver rather than the TV.

You left out a lot of information for someone to answer you. Are you going directly from your cable box to your TV?
Is your receive one with HDMI inputs and a single output?
If you have an AV receiver, then you just plug the HDMI cable from your cable box into the TV input on the back of the receiver, and run a HDMI cable to your TV.
If you don't have an AV receiver, then you need to get audio to your receiver. An easy way to do this is to get a cable like the one in the link: http/www.walmart.com/ip/Belkin-AV20600-06-RCA-Audio-Cable/11962345 . You will plug the RCA jacks into the aux input on the receiver and the outer end will go into the headphone jack on the TV.
This should be able to get you able to hear should thru the receiver and its speakers.
