How to Use Razer Hydra Motion Controllers in SteamVR

This tutorial will provide the necessary information about how to use Razer Hydra Motion Controller in SteamVR. All you need to do so you can finish this process successfully is to follow this steps:

Step 1. If you don’t have installed SteamVR – install it.

  • ■ Install also the SteamVR tool.
    ■ Open Library > filter on Tools > find SteamVR make a right click and then install it.
Step 2. Install the Sixense SDK for the Razer Hydra tool.

  • ■ Open Library > filter on Tools > find Sixense make a right click and then install it.
Step 3. Downoald Razer Hydra compiled driver (latest)
You can use this link : https://github.com/betavr/steamvr_driver_hydra/releases.

  • ■ After you unzip the download and run the installer you can plug in the Razer Hydra Motion controller.
    ■ If the light on your controller is flash green than everything is ready for use.
Step 4. Make the setup for your Razer Hydra in SteamVR

  • If you have chosen the standing mode:

    ■ The wizard will need to detect your Oculus Rift

    ■ You will need to calibrate the center of your play area. To do this successfully hold the headset in the central location and then press Calibrate Center.

    ■The next thing you will need to locate is your floor. With the use of your headset measure the distance you have to the floor.


  • If you have chosen the Room-scale mode.

    ■First clean the space you intend to use as your play area

    ■So you can calibrate the center of your play area take your controller, press the trigger and point it at the monitor.

    ■Place the both controllers on the ground so you can locate the floor.

    ■To measure you play area hold the controller in your hand and press the trigger and walk around the space you have chosen for your play area.


Step 5.The last thing to do is to play the tutorial

  • ■ If the tutorial does not start automatically than you cat start it from the SteamVR popup menu.
