I seems that you can use the HBO Now app directly with the Firestick so you won't need Sling TV as well for just that.

I am not sure but I think unless you have HBO Now ($150/month) or HBO Go(free with HBO on cable) you won't be able to watch GOT when it first airs online.

$15/month, not $150 (yikes!!), but otherwise, yes, exactly.
