Solved! HP Elitebook fan pegged at 100

WHy is my HP Elitebook 8440p fan spin at 100% even at startup? Its fan is fully on (100%) or fully off (when sleeping or shut down).

It was fine until today.

I just opened up my laptop and noticed the blue wire of the fan was damaged. What does the blue wire do?

Does the wire appear to be cut or just the insulation damaged (like from being pinched)? Any heat issues prior to this happening?

This is the likely culprit (heat). The old rig may simply be ready to be put to pasture.

Could be a sensor issue, a failing CPU, cracked/dried up TIM/pads on the CPU and memory, etc. I wouldn't spend much money to revive this old rig.

Besides the fan at 100, everything is normal. But please let me know what does the blue wire do.

Blue wire attached to what? Likely more than one blue wire inside the device. A picture might help as well.
