I had an HP laptop that died for no reason. Turned out to be the MOBO, it was expensive to fix. I didn't since it would probably break down again.

I think HP is getting too large and now they are becoming cocky and don't even care about their customers? I never support these large corporations because they are all the same, GREEDY BASTARDS. i only buy my IT stuff from small retail stores at least they have decent customer support and still handles their customers with respect. HP YOU SUCK A$$

Has nothing to do with the store you brought it from, the service and warranty is handled through HP, if you need a hard drive you dont send your laptop back to best buy, you send it to HP..... we can whale all we like about HP but this endemic of the industry, components are brought from foxconn, call centers are in india, HP are not the exception they are the norm, nearly all the big pc makers follow this practice, personally i do not mind to pay a little extra for quality (and No Macs do not fall under this category, dude foxconn!!!) but it seems like it's getting rarer to find quality. Let just hope shuttle's effort to jump start the build your own laptop takes off.

I had an HP laptop that was RARELY moved from a coffee table... and its Blu-ray drive died about 13 months out... just enough not to be covered under warranty. Thanks HP!

i dont know what the article is talking about. I have an Envy 15 and have no issues with it. My screen does not go blank and i dont even use the webcam. The only thing i dont like about it is the keyboard quick launch buttons on the left.

this is why brands like HP should make possible and easy to retailers to demonstrate their products to customers. In our store there is almost no way a customer to actually "see" what he is buying, only technical specifications on paper. If I on my own decide to power on a pc and show it to some customers than there is no way I could sell it after as brand new.

Man, that is crappy support for a $24,000 HP computer.

I've gotten better service from Lenovo for a $900 notebook. I've even gotten to talk to a live tech within minutes just to ask a tech question about a model.

I've had Samsung CALL me back because I was on hold for over 2-3 minutes... Yep, someone asked for my number because their call-center was very busy and said they will cal me back which they did.

Dell, with their gold service, had to work with some idiots (sometimes someone with a brain) - Warranty was for 20" CRTs - that were Dell-Trinitron, $700+ brand new... since one failed on a dual-display system, replacement required two matching monitors because of the bezels. Since they no longer had any to replace - then sent two crappy CRTs - unacceptable, so they switched for free LCDs. But it was bottom of the end Dell LCDs without DVI and the picture quality was pure crap. Had to chew them out to send us quality monitors. I didn't give a rats-ass about "LCD replaces CRTs" - We bought expensive monitors, we want quality back.

So in our office, at one point - we had 4~5 huge boxes of CRTs and 4 LCDs that needed to be shipped back... because they had sent the junkie LCDs twice.

HP - had one tech from India that was getting *MAD* at me because I couldn't understand WTF he was saying? WTF?! SPEAK the language better! WE're calling from the USA.

Why the USA is in trouble:
- Manufacturing moved over-seas, lower labor costs. USA loses jobs.
- Tech/science/developement jobs moves over seas. USA loses jobs.
- Service / Support (call center) jobs moves over seas, USA loses jobs.
- Carl's Jr & Jack in the Box install automated machines to take orders.

So, if theres no manufacturing, service, tech or fast-food jobs, then WHAT do we do for work to BUY stuff with, pay bills, build cars, etc?

im also in the same boat, black screens everyday and no solution from HP

this is very frustrating, they advertise a product as top of the line and then once we customers make the payment reality hits.

HP Never again.

Good thing that over here, every computer they sell you get to demo first at a table, where they set up all the computers for users to have a play with, like in the apple store..

Jane McEntegart: I contacted Tom's Hardware 6 months ago about all of the problems that Dell laptops have with severe performance throttling issues. Why not do some investigative reporting about these issues. It's ridiculous when top of the line Alienware computers that are marketed for gaming purposes can fall all over themselves and slow down to a crawl during a modern 3D game. There are problems through out the Dell laptop line but nothing is ever investigated or reported by the media.

HP is getting terrible, a buddy of mine had the video issue from nvidia cards, there is a huge thread on their websites with tons of people having the same problem, they will not acknowledge the issue and force everyone to pay 400 to fix it.

the purple webcams are obviously a hardware issue, however, I have a feeling that the screens going black is a software issue. I know from experience that alot of times with windows 7, when your computer goes into sleep I can't get my computer back out of sleep mode. I just have to restart my desktop or my screen wont come back on.

1) looks like it has no IR filter in place
2) it is a webcam (no expectation of quality should be assumed)
3) it is an HP

perfect storm of bad webcam quality.

Typical response, even Apple responds like this to multiple complaints. This is what companies do.
Its too bad but shit happens with computers and especially now with so much being crammed into them and so its no wonder some defects happen. Its just too bad companies do not respond better to their customers to discover and work out a solution instead of denying its a problem.

Yep - spent $3600 sing dollars on a unreliable machine that's too heave to carry around, and too unreliable to run anything meaningful on. Have been completely ignored by HP's support org. This ends my lifetime relationship with HP.
