HP nc4010 charges battery, doesn't see it though

I have a used HP nc4010 laptop that successfully charges a battery but it will not recognize it for use. Laptop only runs on AC power.

Any ideas?

NOTE: there are no bent pins in the battery or battery bay. Everything looks normal.

So your laptop dies the moment you take off the AC power? Your battery might be at the end of it's life and need replacement. I had a used Fujitsu Siemens that charged the battery to full capacity and died the moment you take the AC power off.

Exactly! Hmmmmm... that's strange, but worth a try. I can get another one from a friend. Thanks for the tip!
