hp screen shuts down but it still runs.

Hello,

I have a hp 2000 series laptop and the screen goes black but the laptop is still running. I have set it up with external monitor and it loses connection with that as well. I am thinking it may be my motherboard shorting out or something worse. Am I just out of luck or can I fix it? I am capable of repairing it myself, I am just wondering what others think I should do?

That model was plagued by poor solder connections to the GPU requiring a solder reflow after numerous hot/cold cycles.
They never seem to last long after the reflow anyways so I would suggest you start saving.
