I've posted a question like this before but I've done some more research and was wondering if I could get the NVidia GeForce gtx 980 notebook graphics card for my hp zbook 15. I have a NVidia quadro k2100m and if the 980 is incompatible with my zbook then any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Gaming laptops are not my forte. I generally concentrate on laptops selling under $1,200 and many time below $600 for those who have limited budgets.

You should create a new thread and fill out the following survey. If you want a laptop with a GTX 970m / 980m with at least 4GB of VRAM, then you should specifically state that. A $2,200 budget will be enough to get you a laptop with a GTX 980m. Waiting for holiday sales to kick off may shave off $100 or $200 which should probably start in another week or two.

Sorry, but the GTX 980m will not be compatible. The Quadro K2100m is MXM-A (80mm x 70mm) while the GTX 980m is MXM-B (80mm x 105mm) which means the GTX 980m is physically too large to be inserted into the MXM slot. See links below:

You are basically out of luck. The K2100m is based off of the GTX 660m and all nVidia mobile gaming GPU uses the MXM-B format going as far back as the GTX 6xx series.

Thanks for the info, what exactly would you recommend? I need something with about 4 or 6 gb of memory so I can play most games with ultra graphics no lag.

That would be impossible because the small form factor of MXM-A limits dedicated RAM to 2GB.

See link below for all gaming MXM-A format GPUs. As stated the K2100m is derived from the GTX 660m (MXM-B) so for gaming purpose it would be very likely the K2100m is a bit less powerful than the GTX 660m.

The most powerful gaming GPU would be the Radeon HD 8750 and according to Notebookcheck they rank it below your current K2100m. They rank the K2100m near the bottom of "Class 1" mobile GPUs while the Radeon HD 8750 is ranked near the top of "Class 2".

It would seem that the most powerful MXM-A workstation GPU is the FirePro W5170M. Notebookcheck ranks it a bit higher than the K2100m. But that is based solely on specs alone since they do not list any benchmarks for it. Both of which are ranked below the GTX 950m.

If you want a more powerful GPU in a laptop, then you need to consider buying a new laptop because you are basically have the 2nd most powerful GPU that can be installed in your laptop. The most powerful GPU that can fit in your laptop is not that much powerful and it is only ranked based on specs alone.

Thanks again for all the help and if you could recommend a laptop under 2,200 us dollars I would really appreciate it.
