Hw do i unlock an apple powerbook laptop

hve a apple pwrbook that has been stored for ~2yrs - now message is: Due to an improper shutdown etc etc. How do i unlock it?

Boot from an appropriate Os X DVD. Go to the Utilities tab. First check the hard drive to see if it is good. If it is, then in the same area 'Change Password'.
