I don't quite know what you mean - does your tv have both vga and hdmi in? If so, does windows see the tv as a 2nd monitor? If so - adjust the resolution to match a format the tv supports.

How are you telling win10 to mirror the displays ... win + p ?

When you use HDMI the laptop and TV have to "handshake" so the order you boot the laptop and select the HDMI Input on the TV makes a difference. Give it 10 seconds or so.
