I have a HP Notebook when I plug the power source into the side of the notebook it shows yellow what color should it be

Okay okay when I plug my power source into the side of my notebook it shows yellow but the notebook still won't power up and I don't know if the battery is good or not I just bought it from a friend but on the side on the side of the notebook it still shows yellow does it supposed to show Green

I just bought a HP Notebook it won't power up I plug the power source to the side of the notebook and it still shows yellow does the light on the side supposed to show Green or is yellow what it shows and will The Notebook run without a battery source when you got the main power source plugged in please help
