i have a laptop that only has 1 port for a headset but no mic port i have a headset and a adapter but it doesn't show up

What kind of an adapter are you talking about? USB?

1)Control Panel
2)Realtek HD Audio Manager
3)To The right click the black circle
4)select Headset

You could get a splitter for the port and go into the audio manager and find the headset
