I have a Samsung plasma tv and I’m trying to hook up external speakers

TVs long ago stopped having speaker terminals, so you'll need an amplifier. You have to match the amplifier to your speakers.

Is this
your TV' back panel? If so - there's only Optical Out audio visible, so you'll need a stereo amplifier with optical input, or a converter for standard amplifier.
