I have horizontal a line on my laptop screen

i have horizontal a line on my laptop screen, how do i know that i need a new screen?

Try an external monitor, also use furmark and see if you start getting more distortions in your screen since it might be a failing graphics card as well. Buy a new lcd cable if the gpu is good and if that doesn't solve it then get a new screen. If a new screen doesn't fix it then the connector to the motherboard has probably gone bad and a new mobo is in order :/
