i need audio

my philips dvp642 dvd video player progressive scan,has no audio at all!

Does this happens on DVD as well as on CDs? What about MP3s? Something might became defective (capacitors), open it up and check.
This DVD player was top of the line when it was released back in 2002. It is probably time to get a new one.
