I think I messed up real good. Activesync has stopped working. My PC
recognizes the USB cradle and makes the connection tone when I put my HP
Ipaq 2210 in, however Activesync never comes on. I have messed with the
connection setting, uninstalled and reinstalled Activesync, rebooted and
reset until my fingers are sore all without success. I read to delete the
partnership so I did that and now the Establish Partnership Wizard also
doesn't start.

Can ANYONE offer suggestions? I am at a lose! Thanks

Believe it or not, I'vee seen this happen and changing the USB port
the cable is in might help. If not and you have Windows XP, the
easiest thing might be to do a system restore to yesterday or whenever
it was working.

Hmmmm.... I guess it might be time for a hard reset.... that puts your
iPaq back in the state you bought it in. Which means: all software you
installed yourself will be erased from the machine, but you always can
reinstall that... First back up all your volatile data on a memorycard
and take that card out. (even though the contenst of memorycards are not
affected by a hard reset it is better to stay on the safe side of
course), And then press the two outer buttons at the bottom of the 2210
and the resetbutton at the back simultaneously. Keep them three pressed
for a while till reset has started. After that your machine is as good as
new again.

to amplify on Ed's suggestion;

connect the ppc

open device manager

find and delete the device's usb entry

disconnect the ppc, soft reset it and after it reboots, power it down

connect (cradle) the powered down device to the PC

The above will clear the usb port entry information... if the connect is
successful, assure that future connects are made via the same usb port.

If a hub is involved, assure that the hub is connected to the same PC
port and the device is always connected to the same hub port.

I tried the device delete for the USB cradle. Changed cable position. The
computer "sees" me connecting the PPC, but activesync won't start. I run
"Get Connected" wizard and my device is never found. I went to the SYSTEM
RESTORE and the last and only restore point is yesterday when I reinstalled
Activesync for the 1000th time. I think that the problems are in the
communcations settings but I have changed everything to every POSSIBLE
configuration, I don't even know where I am, must less the settings.

Well,

Seems it is working again. I was told to take out the battery (did
that), leave it out for 20 minutes (did that) and now EVERYTHING is gone but
I can reconnect to my PC. All of my programs, all of my contacts,
appointments, all gone. Kinda like losing a friend. Thanks for everyone's
help and advice.

>> changed cable position <<

Think I might have been misunderstood.

It is my suspicion that the usb _port id_ information referenced is
wrong because it is looking at the original connection port id information.

The point of the steps that I posted was to clear all of the port id
entries by deleting the pocketpc entry from the device manager while it
was connected.

Disconnecting the device, soft resetting and powering it down assures
that the device will trigger the usb connect process and it should
generate a "new device found" routine on the PC but require no user
interaction as the drivers are still installed. (don't change the usb
port at this time)

On the assumption that you still have problems, disconnect the ppc and
open activesync on the ppc and tap options and confirm that "enable
connection when cradled" is checked and usb selected, then exit, soft
reset and power down and give those sore fingers another hit.

If still no success, go through the device manager steps again and try
with the usb cable connected directly to the pc and not through a hub.

hth,
Beverly Howard

Ugh. Sorry you had to go through that. Your data should be in Outlook
through your last sync. It seems something you installed corrupted
your Pocket PCs ability to sync and the hard reset cleared it up. Have
you installed anything on it recently?
