Okay, so basically a few days ago I accidentally dropped my laptop (HP ENVY Dv6z-7200 notebook with Windows 8) and broke my LCD laptop screen. I wasn't that mad because I could just hook up an external monitor and use that instead. But now, something happened with my system and it is failing to work. Every time I turn it on and login, the whole computer freezes and crashes.

Now, my problem is trying to access the bios. Obviously, the bios shows up on my laptop screen, but I can't see that so it's worthless. Is there a way I can force my laptop to use my external monitor in the bios so I can restore my laptop to factory settings, or maybe do a system diagnostics? Thanks for your replies

Yes, when I get to the login screen my external monitor starts working, but then my whole laptop freezes and then crashes. But if I hit F10 or ESC as soon as I turn on my laptop, I can tell the BIOS is open because my broken screen on my laptop turns blue, but my external monitor never gets picked up.

The problem is, even when I get to the bios I can't see anything because its not picking up my external monitor

I never got a disk when I bought the laptop and never got around to burning one myself, so I guess I'm stuck with the partition method

Well, I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point. I find it odd that you can boot to the os on your monitor, but it won't show the bios. My best guess is aside from the screen, you've dinged the hdd. Without being able to get to bios to boot the recovery, I'm stumped.

Sorry I couldn't help you.

Yeah, maybe. I kno when I boot up the lappy and login, I can see the disk activity light is a solid white.. It's not blinking or anything.. Them it freezes and shuts itself down.

Anyways, I appreciate the effort!
