I replaced battery in my acer laptop and its now saying no battery detected I can use it if its plugged into charger

I have the same problem. Old battery died, bought new one And it says no battery connected. Yet I can turn it on and run it with the new battery alone. But it says that there is no battery and there is no charging of the new battery when plugged in. I have had this happen to at least 2 different laptops. On one the problem went away, but I haven't a clue why..There must be some switch hidden away in the software....
