I stopped watching She-Hulk — and it changes the way I think about the MCU

Except for the wedding episode, I have thoroughly enjoyed She-Hulk. I have been a fan of the character for years, and the MCU is doing a great job. If you have ever read one of her comics, they have always been light hearted and a little odd. I think there have been more cross overs and Easter eggs in this show than any other one. Abomination, Wong ( especially Wong), Hulk, Secret Invasion or a possible Sakkar reference?

It's bland writing. The people who actually care about the story might only be the make up people with their green mascara 😝

Definitely grasping - 2nd paragraph mentions getting fatigue from Hawkeye and Moon Knight.

Hawkeye focused heavily on a college aged young woman, and the antagonist was a young, non-hearing female.

Moon Knight's antagonist may be male, but he's a bumbling, mentally ill, and generally untrustworthy narrator and far from the muscled up, hyper masculine power fantasies embodied by characters like Thor and Captain America.

The OP very clearly has a preference for the latter but doesn't grasp that not suiting his personal taste doesn't make a show bad.

SheHulk and Ms. Marvel were simply not made for him.

Given that Moon Knight and Hawkeye were both mentioned in the very first paragraph, I'd definitely say you're grasping :)

Moon Knight was great. Not sure what you're going on about.
Moon Knight was so mediocre, it was blatantly derivative of Deadpool down to the use of music from Wham with the notable exception of "blacking out" the violence. Only shows Disney is afraid to use the characters they have to their full potential. People trash She-Hulk or the admittedly very childish Ms. Marvel and fail to see the entire mediocrity of this entire Phase of Marvel.

It honestly sounds like you just don’t like shows driven by female lead characters. As a man, I’m not hating She-Hulk at all. I actually like all the weirdness about it and breaking the fourth wall, which is common with her character just like Deadpool. It was made to draw in more female viewers, which it has done just that, and to get guys to possibly watch with their female partners. Yes, the show has veered off a bit with more girly stories, like the dating and wedding episodes. And, I’m sure it won’t stay there. Admittedly, I haven’t been that interested in continuing with Ms Marvel only because I’m not that interested in teen stories, which tend to focus on petty high school matters and drama, and that’s where it lost me. LoL However, somehow I can totally binge watch Stranger Things LoL. It sounds like you are biased to shows that are male driven. I get that…But, maybe try not to complain so much and sound so jaded, dude. It’s only TV…LoL
I'm kind of along the lines of your thought process, while I made it through Ms. Marvel ( My wife enjoyed it), I do feel it was very childish to an extent. Almost like a Disney Channel tv show. I am thoroughly enjoying She-Hulk even though I honestly didn't expect it to be. Strangely my wife didn't like She-Hulk at first but she warmed up to it in recent episodes. It's refreshing in that it really isn't trying to be like any of the other Marvel tv shows before it.

Curious. I've actually enjoyed She Hulk, and have tuned in each week. Truly don't understand how so many people dislike the series.
But I'm also in line with the author generally. Ms. Marvel was something I had to fast forward through, only watching a few snippets each episode and Moon Knight was watched out of a curiosity for how the MCU would use Oscar (he was wasted).

I had the same thought about 8 years ago. I saw a few MCUs movies just for fun. Then I realized there was a running story (infinity stones) and I went back and watched every minute of every MCU movie in order just to make sure I didn't miss anything. I stayed up to date for 23 movies (or however far we are). After catching up, I realized there is really no running story through most of the movies, and I was watching obsessively due to FOMO. I mean sure, a character sometimes makes an aside that becomes relevant 6 years later. And occasionally a character dies, but mostly in the main movies.

That said, I haven't fixed my problem in my brain, so I still watch all the movies and TV shows to be complete, but I do often feel I am wasting my time. /shrug /sad. Someday I'll be stronger.

So you didn't like Ms Marvel, you don't like She Hulk, didn't mention Wandavision, and you aren't watching Echo. Wanted to turn off Moon knight, and again didn't spend much time on Falcon and Winter Soldier...if you even mentioned them at all....stopped reading after I noticed a pattern.
Dude, why did you even write an article about She Hulk? You're the deals editor! I figure that the last bit about Disney plus pricing may have given you the gumption, but bro, really, check the source material. I'd like to see tour thoughts or thought on The Little Mermaid. The show you put down is in my opinion, which I guess this is yours as well, but, it is pretty cool. These shows serve two purposes...introduce the new Avengers, and to be the calm before the storm as there are probably about 4 major villains coming soon. Kang, Doctor Doom, Galactus, and the Beyonder. You have Marvel fatigue because they just went 10 years full throttle, and it's about to begin again once Kang shows up in Antman. Calm down Ritchie Cunningham.

She-Hulk is the latest Marvel show on Disney Plus that has left me cold — so I'm switching up my approach to the MCU.

Here's my take as someone who grew up reading comics. The MCU is just comics on screen, they always crossed over between titles, but most people only read what they liked and they still got the story.

So , watch what you like, plus the big important stuff will always be on the big screen first.

Its super interesting how All the guys who made it a big deal to say they arent feeling shehulk and ms marvel look like the same guy. Im surprised you didnt pull the “she hulk said she doesnt like being catcalled but she twerks with meg the stallion” card, but at least you threw in the “i like black panther” card.

That is interesting. I find it even more interesting how eager certain "fans" are to dismiss any criticism of the show by focusing on the people making the criticisms, rather than the criticisms themselves. Almost as if you're defensive about the quality of the show for some reason... At least you said "guys" and not "incels" this time though, right?

I'm right there with you.

I'm old enough to remember when the She Hulk first debuted in 1980. Marvel never knew what to do with her. She can't keep a solo series running for long.

Team Filler or a one note joke character. I hate that the show has become a gimmick reliant 'cameo of the week' snooze fest.

It seams like a large amount of guy are hating on she hulk, but even without commenting on that. You will not fully understand the mcu if you don't watch everything I still have to rewatch some stuff to get everything from it even though I grew up reading and learning about superheroes. So saying that you can just pick and choose and you'll be fine is very very wrong. You will miss something but considering the fact that you don't like where it's going anyways you mine as well just keep watching the old movies because the MCU is changing for the better. It's hitting topics that most don't even think of, why also inspiring the youth of today. She hulk got into how most women feel there entire life. Constantly looking over there shoulder and watching there words. The MCU is trying to show the exact same thing that marvel comic did off screen. It's showing us a more inclusive world where everyone is accepted but also showing others what has happened to other groups.

I feel similarly about Tom's Guide. I've been sort of getting their links shoved into my Google News feed for a while. Not really sure how it happened, but at first I didn't mind. Then the "articles" became more and more bland and tepid, like people striving for anything to say, even when it was just inane articles tearing down things others have made.

The writers don't really seem to have any chops when it comes to commenting on media. I mean... one guy is just a "deals editor." He just went on about how he found some show "uninspiring."

Anyway, I think I'll follow the same lead as the guy who wrote this article. I'll just... turn off Tom's Guide. It was once a decent site, but now it's just following the same negativity trend. Is it even really "news?" Of course not. Shame on Google News for carrying it.

The real problem with the entire MCU is that it has changed from what it used to be prior to Disney. Same thing happened with Star Wars. Disney doesn't care about the characters, not really. They care about making money. So they will continue putting out mediocre shows, trying to cater to everyone. Honestly, IMHO, it will end up being a mistake, since people will tire of it eventually. I got tired of the movies honestly. I used to look forward to them, but later realized they were no longer fun. The only ones I that felt fun recently were Ant Man and the sequel. Black Panther was enjoyable also. But the entire Infinity War series was just a convoluted and a silly plot catering to overpopulation fears, so half of everyone has to die. Thanos was made out to be a "good" bad guy having to do bad things to save everyone. It was just unbelievable. And then by magic literally everyone is brought back. Just silly. MCU tries to be some grand epic, but in reality has just become silly.
