The boots in the photos are actually Helly Hansen's Montesano boot. Better looking than the Coastal Hiker, but likely discontinued.

They are Chucks they are flat and terrible for anything non urban and off pavement. Any good pair of hiking boots would replace them, Solomon makes several good boots. But being surprised at the failings of Chucks kinda makes invalidates your review.
