I'm looking for a way to connect my laptop to my TV so I can watch Netflix on it. My 8-yr-old Venturer TV does have an "S Video" and a "VGA monitor" input along with several RCA ports; the standard video and audio inputs which you'd use for DVD player or game. There is an "S-video" port and a "VGA monitor" multi-pin input. Should I get a multi-pin to multi-pin cable and hook it to the matching inputs on both devices? My apologies if my verbiage isn't up to date--I'm 54-yrs-old and still miss my 8-track player from my high school days and the only cables I've used on a regular basis are RCA's. I have a 29" newer TV with an HDMI input but wanted to use the older TV for Netflix so I don't have to patch and re-patch all of the time. Thanks for your advice!

Yes, use the vga ports on both devices. You will have to run separate cables from your laptop to rca speaker inputs on your tv to get the sound there, as well.
