i want to use a phone that is stil active in a contract for prepaid now, how do i do that?

i have a phone that is linked to a contract through us cellular. i've recently switched to their prepaid phone setup, but have a standard "boring phone". i want to use my note 5 which is tangled in a contract still. how do i go about clearing the phone so i can use it for my prepaid account? or can i??
