i3 vs amd a8

Solution
I am going to guess the A8 APU you are talking about is the A8-6410 (Beema) or the A8-7410 (Carrizo-L). Those are relatively weak APUs. They have less processing performance compared to a Broadwell 5th generation Core i3 CPU like the i3-5005u and the recently released Skylake 6th generation Core i3 CPU like the i3-6100u.

The A8-6410's / A8-7410's Radeon R5 (Beema / Carrizo-L) graphics core is not very powerful. It is almost as powerful as the Intel HD 4000 graphic core found in Ivy Bridge 3rd generation Core i3 CPUs like the i3-3110m. The Intel HD 5500 (Broadwell) and Intel HD 520 (Skylake) would be more powerful than the Radeon R5 graphics core.
