I am currently weighing in two laptops, both by Lenovo.

$712: i5-4200U + Nvidia 840M
(-) Lower clock speed & turbo boost
(-) Intel HD 4400
(+) Power efficient
(+) Quoted as being 35% faster over 740M
(+) 2 GB graphics memory
(=) 4 GB system RAM

$720: i5-4200M + Nvidia 740M
(+) Higher clock speed & turbo boost
(+) Intel HD 4600
(-) Power hungry
(-) Slower over 840M
(-) 1 GB graphics memory
(=) 4 GB system RAM
(+) 8 GB SSD

The cost difference: just $8!

I'll be using the laptop for programming, designing (Photoshop, et al). I want to be able to run FIFA 15 and 16 smoothly - wouldn't mind if I have to play it on low, either; but if medium works, that's a bonus, eh.

Which one would be more suitable for me? I would love to get 2-3 years out of it without having heavy bottlenecks in future.

Notes:

(1) The prices have been converted to US dollars for convenience. I am an Indian consumer.
(2) Here's the complete comparision page, should anyone require it: http://www.flipkart.com/computer/compare?ids=COMDXNHGPPPTKXGH,COMDUS3GWYT7ZV5G

Are you sure about that? They are bringing the Ignite engine to the PC, previously exclusive to the Xbox and PS consoles.

Could you link me to the benchmarks, please?

I bought the laptop with 740m. I can run FIFA 15 (the full game), on high. The 840m should fare well, too.
