i5 laptop vs i3 laptop, which to get for my uses?

So got a very tight budget of $400
USES
Coding mostly, mathlab/CAD/Modeling software, excel, lots of multitasking, YT/netflex
I have a custom PC at home so i barly touch the laptop i have right now, so this laptop will strictly be used for work and college. thinking maybe 2-3 years later i will upgrade or something

CHOICES
Laptop A:

Just absolutely perfect but with tax it goes over $500
got fingerprint, nice screen, i5 7th gen, 9hr battery life

Laptop B: http/
I can upgrade the RAM to 8gb and it still fits in my $400 budget
Its got a i3 7th gen, but for some reason i feel that my uses really dont need the power of a i5.
Its got a OK screen and 12 hr battery life!

Question
So for my uses, which should i get? I really want to get Laptop 1 but thats just because the inner me wants something new and owerful. SO will the i3 laptop be sufficient enough for me or should i just get the i5 laptop?

The i5 has turbo boost, which will help in heavy processing workloads and even in day-to-day usability like web browsing. It may be a little pricey now, but it will remain relevant far longer.

im trying to use this laptop for like 2-3 years and then upgrade if i need to. So idk if the i5 is worth it or not. I have my custom PC so i barely touch my laptop so like idk. What do u guys think i should do?

You said you planned on doing all of that with the laptop, then you say that you will barely use it.

Which is it?

If you plan to do the above stuff with that laptop, the i5 would be better suited for it.

In college im prob gana use it 2-3 hrs a day, gana do all that in that time obviously. At home i mostly use my desktop and dont really use my laptop. Copy files from laptop on a USB, transfer to desktop, then transfer bac to laptop when im done

I would recommend an i5 for the multitasking and software programs. You can probably get by with the i3, but you might get frustrated with it lagging.
