I am a student attending college and I want to buy a laptop that is fairly high performance. I am trying to decide between an i5 and a i7. Considering that I spend long stretches of time away from my room I need a laptop that wont drain the battery too fast. However I also want something that can run some of the higher end games.

One of the laptops I am considering is the Dell XPS 15 which has a i5-2410M or the other two processors I am considering is the i5-2520M, and the i7 2640QM.The i5-2520M has a faster clock speed and is considered an upgrade but when I compared it to the i5-2410M it actually said it was slower. The other option is the i7 which is faster than both but I am worried about the battery life. I was hoping for some advice as to which processor would work the best given my circumstances. However I am open to the idea of considered an entirely different laptop.

Some other information, I am a Aero engineering student. I plan to buy a 9 cell battery, and the two games that I was specifically testing to see if would work are Civ 5, and Shogun total war 2.

Thanks for the help in advance

Hi,

You'll need a graphics card to run Civ 5. This is a great website where if you sign up and put in your system configuration you can check if a game will run in 2 seconds flat.
