Hey TH.

What I'm about to say is perhaps one of the most sinful and blasphemous things I'll ever type, being a passionate PC gamer. I currently have a custom built PC that has served me well over the past two and half years. However, I feel as though I would be better served by a laptop because I am a college student who needs a mobile device for class and I do a decent amount of traveling. I know laptops are worse than desktops performance wise, etc. You don't need to convince me. I just would rather have a laptop is all.

Being as you guys were integral to the process of building my PC years ago, I figured I'd come back for laptop advice. I actually read the sticky so here's the answers to your questions.

What is your budget?
Tough question. I'd prefer less than $1,500 if possible, but I'm willing to go so far as $1,800.

What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
I was hoping for a 14 or 15 inch screen. Thinness is important to me as well. The thinner the better.

What screen resolution do you want?
1920x1080 would be great.

Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
This would replace my desktop and be my primary computer.

How much battery life do you need?
Battery life isn't really important since I'll likely often have it plugged in. But 2-4 hours would be great I suppose.

Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
I do quite a bit of gaming, but I rarely play new AAA titles or expect the highest settings. I play Skyrim more than anything else at Ultra on my desktop with ENB, texture mods, etc but would be willing to sacrifice some quality for the sake of performance.

What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Nothing too heavy. I do a lot of writing/research and might do some video editing.

How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
I have 3 TB on my desktop and I don't think I've ever even reached 1 TB. 1 TB would be preferable but I can settle for 500GB.

If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
Amazon would be preferable, but I'm not picky about this.

How long do you want to keep your laptop?
As long as possible. If that's too vague, 3-5 years.

What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
I can't remember the last time I've used an optical drive. Bluray would be nice but definitely not essential.

Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
So far I've been mostly drawn to Razer. Their Razer Blade looks pretty great, albeit a bit too expensive. My first gaming laptop was an Acer Aspire that I still use though it's nearing the end of its days, but it's more than served its purpose and thus I'd be willing to give Acer another buy.

What country do you live in?
United States.

Please tell us any additional information if needed.
My current PC has a GTX 970, i5 3.2GHz and 8GB RAM. I can provide more information if needed.

I'm open to any and all advice. Thank you for your help.

hello,

I do recommend getting a gtx 1070 laptop for future proofing. However, if you're not too keen on AAA gaming and max settings a gtx 1060 one should suffice.
